URBAN WILDLIFE CONNECTIVITY STUDY
While working with Studio-MLA in 2016 and in partnership with the National Wildlife Federation, Kat Superfisky conceived and oversaw an analysis of urban wildlife connectivity in the second largest metropolitan region in the United States—Los Angeles, California. The main goal of the study was to investigate how urban systems can be used to enhance, rather than impede, connectivity for both humans and wildlife.
During Phase 1 of the project, Studio-MLA reviewed and synthesized existing research on wildlife connectivity, conducted a comprehensive geographic analysis of existing conditions within the Greater Los Angeles Area, selected seven target taxa and mapped their associated species’ distributions, and identified opportunity areas for building biodiversity and increasing connectivity within the city.
